The Ministry of Social development undertakes the responsibility of providing different welfare services for children of unknown parents, orphans and children from shattered families through a number of centers, homes and units:
The Child Welfare Home was opened on
10/07/1984. It
is a welfare establishment that is attached to the Ministry of Social
Development and that takes care of children of unknown parents, orphans and
children from shattered families up to the age of fifteen years.
The Home Objectives:
To house the children of unknown parents, orphans, and
children from shattered families.
To provide welfare, educational, physiological, medical
and living aspects for the home lodgers till they are adopted and their
family circumstances improved.
To develop rules and legislations pertaining to those
children in conjunction with the concerned bodies in Bahrain.
To encourage families to adopt and follow up the child
adoption with the family.
To overcome the difficulties and obstacles which are
encountered by the adopting family after its adoption of the child.
To follow up the cases of shattered families and assist
them in resolving their problems.
Types of Welfare:
Internal housing welfare and its objective is to accommodate
the child in the Home and ensure all living services for him.
External housing welfare and its objective is child
fostering by a Bahraini family and following up the child adoption with it.
The Boys Welfare Home was established in 1996 and it is a welfare establishment that is attached to the Ministry of Social development and that takes care of children of unknown parents and whom age exceeds twelve years and the Home Board contributes in financing its services.
The Home Objectives:
To provide living, welfare, medical, psychological, and recreational services for boys of unknown parents that suit their requirements and age group.
To provide temporary accommodation which is suitable for those boys who are not fostered until they complete their education and become able to depend on themselves.
To train the boys on direct interaction with the society, establish social relationship, and gain experiences that benefit them in their future life, and assist them to integrate in the society.
To provide opportunities to continue education for those who finish their study, or guide them to join vocational training centers according to their capabilities.
To provide work opportunities for the boys to enable them live their lives independently.
To implement the fostering procedures and follow up the families and fostered children.
The Unit Objectives:
To apply the Family Fostering Law and the resolutions of the Family Fostering Committee.
To conduct social studies on the families that apply for fostering and to prepare a comprehensive report about these families and submit it to the Fostering Committee.
To examine the status of children who are fostered not through the official mean and whom guardians demand their fostering officially; and to prepare a social report about each case and submit to the Fostering Committee and implement its decisions regarding that.
To notify the family that wish to foster children whom the committee has agreed on, and to hand them the child after getting the required guarantees to take care and protect them.
To follow up the children after handing them over to the fostering families, and to submit the follow-up results to the Fostering Committee indicating the ways to overcome the difficulties that are encountered by the fostered children.
To assist the fostering families and the fostered children in overcoming the difficulties that they encounter.
To prepare welfare files for the fostering families and their fostered children and arrange regulatory registers for fostering.
