The CommunityRehabilitationCenter is a welfare center that was opened in April 1980 to provide rehabilitation, educational, and vocational services for children and youths who have simple and middle mental disability, and brain paralysis.
Typeof disability:
- Mental disability – middle and mild.
- Brain paralysis.
The Center aims at:
1.To diagnose the Disabled case to determine his aptitude and his mental, physical and sensual capabilities in order to plan vocational and educational guidance and welfare programme to develop to those capabilities
2.To train the Disabled on the acquirement of essential academic skills through an educational programme that adapts to different disability aspects
3.To train the Disabled on gaining the required vocational skills that qualify him to take up a job or to practise a proper work, and to achieve suitable level of economical independence and vocational consistency through the means of guidance programme and vocational training and according to whatever suits the Disabled inclinations, and the needs of the labour market
4.To develop health awareness and to acquire proper health habits through a comprehensive programme for health and precautionary education against disease and accidents
5.To develop and encourage the Disabled inclinations and hobbies that might enable them to enrich their lives and occupy their free time through various recreational and social activities and programmes
6.To achieve social adaptation and self independence, and to develop the sensation of self value and psychological harmony through a comprehensive programme for guidance, direction, and psychological health
7.To propose and conduct studies, surveys and researches pertaining to Disabled with a view to plan future services for them
Programmes and Services:
First: To rehabilitate the children who have simple or medium retardation according to the special programmes that assist them in the social integration. These programmes include:
· Essential academic skills
· Self – sufficiency skills
· Social skills
· Recreational skills
· Skills in vocational preparation
Second: The students are vocationally trained in the following workshops.
· Carpentry workshop.
· Upholstery workshop.
· Dismantling and installation workshop.
· Aluminum fabrication workshop.
· Welding workshop.
· Mechanical workshop.
· Tailoring and handicrafts workshop.
· Ceramics works workshop.
· Beautification and hair-dressing workshop.
· Printing services workshop.
· Computers workshop.
Third: Also the center provides services and social, psychological, medical, cultural, and sports welfare programmes.
Fourth: Organizing training courses in various special education fields and vocational rehabilitation according to the local level of teachers and vocational trainers.
Acceptance Conditions:
1.He should be of a Bahraini nationality
2.He should be free from any contagious diseases or mental disorder
3.He should have the minimum level and the ability to learn and is not behaviorally disturbed to a degree that hinders the possibility to teach or train him or teach and train his other colleagues
4.He should have simple or medium mental retardation, and his age varies between 12 to 15 years in case of his acceptance for rehabilitation at the special education unit.
5.He should have certain degree of mental, physical or sensual disability and his age is more than 15 years in case of his acceptance for vocational rehabilitation
6.The family should have the desire to benefit from the center’s programmes and services

The Shaikhan Alfarsi: Center for Total Communication was opened in 1997 and is a governmental establishment that is attached to the Ministry of Social Development and which provides all educational and rehabilitation services for those who have a hearing disability. The Center is an extension of the Hearing Disability Unit at the RehabilitationCenter that started its services in 1980.
The Center objectives:
To diagnose the cases of those who have a hearing disability and to determine their capabilities and their hearing and mental abilities.
To train the children on the usage of spoken language according to intensified programmes in lingual, pronouncement, and acoustical training.
To teach children academically according to modern education styles and total communication methods (pronouncement, lips reading and writing, sign language, and fingers alphabetic).
To integrate the children who have a hearing problem but are able to pursue normal learning and studying in public schools after rehabilitating them acoustically and from lingual perspective.
To train the cadres working at the center, upgrade their competence and improve their abilities in the field of rehabilitating the children with a hearing disability.
To train the families on the way to understand and deal with their children.
To develop health awareness and to gain proper health habits through a comprehensive programme for health education and protection from diseases and accidents.
To develop and encourage a group of inclinations and hobbies for those who have a hearing disability that might assist in enriching their lives and occupying their free time through social and recreational programmes.

Copies of the C.P.R. of person who has the case and his parent.
Two (2) personal photograph of the person who has the case.

Acceptance Conditions:
He should be of a Bahraini nationality.
The child’s age should not be less than two and a half years and not exceed eight years.
He should be free from contagious diseases and psychological disorder.
A medical report that proves he has a hearing disability only and not coupled with any other disability.
The Center’s Programmes and Services:
The Center provides rehabilitation programmes for those who have a hearing disability that include early education programme:
Application of nurseries’ programmes and curricula with the aim to develop all kinetic and sensual skills of the child who have a hearing disability.
Intensified training programme on acoustic and pronouncement practices.
Rehabilitation on the children with a hearing disability to integrate in the classes of ordinary school, each according to his abilities and potentialities.
The Children Day Care Center is a welfare establishment that was found in 1993. The Center looks after the welfare of children with multiple disabilities and brain paralysis.
The Center Objectives:
To take care of children with multiple disabilities on daily basis and to assist them and to alleviate their families’ burden.
To train the mothers on the way to look after their Disabled children.
To measure the abilities of Disabled children and put the activities that suit their levels, and to utilize their capabilities to the maximum limit possible.

Acceptance Conditions:
He should be of a Bahraini nationality
He should be free form contagious diseases.
The child age should vary between 3 and 12.
He should be free from psychological disorder
He should have multiple disabilities.
He should not be one of the bed cases.
He should have the susceptibility of learning and training.
The Types of Services Offered by the Center
Rehabilitation Services:
Implementation of rehabilitation programmes for children, which include self-sufficiency, social development, and educational rehabilitation that aims at the development of knowledge awareness for those who have the potential to learn; which makes the Disabled aware of the environment datum surrounding him, and also aims to provide the children with experiences.
Recreational Programmes:
Making educational and recreational picnics.
Assisting children in integrating with each other.
Watching movies and educational and cartoons programmes.
Exercising different hobbies.
Health services:
Provision of physiotherapy by physiotherapist specialists and training of mothers on the way to work with children.
Psychological Services:
To resolve the behavioral problems that encounter the children.
Other Services:
The Center provides the children requirements including equipment and aids, and work on facilitating their transportation and accompanying them to and from their houses.
The Center was opened in 1992 to provide all services for Disabled people who are not able to work in the labour market in normal circumstances. The Center provides the possibility for them to get trained in protected workshops on vocational professions that suit their level and physical abilities.
The Type of disability:
The Disabled youth of the age of (16) years and above who suffer from mental disability, medium or severe, and kinetic disability.
Objectives:
To rehabilitate the Disabled youth through individual programmes and plans that suit their level and capabilities.
To encourage the youth in participation and to train them on the utilization of their abilities and self- reliance in public life matters.
To develop the youths’ skills through simple vocational works which suit their levels.
To provide work opportunities for Disabled youth.
Programmes and Services:
The students are trained in protected workshops on the following professions:
1.Special skills workshop
2.Equipment maintenance workshop
3.Books binding workshop
4.Farming workshop
5.Manual professions workshop
6.Handicrafts workshop
7.House-keeping and kitchen services workshop
The Center provides also social welfare, psychological, medical, recreational, cultural, and sporting programmes and services.
Acceptance Conditions:
The trainee’s age should be (16) years and above and should have full self – sufficiency.
He should have complete readiness in joining work.
The trainee should have the minimum level of training ability according to special curricula.
The Home was established in 1970 and it is the first governmental establishment that looks after those who have medium or severe mental disability, and brain paralysis disability. In contribution of the National Bank of Bahrain and emphasis of its National role in providing welfare services, the bank has built and equipped a new home. This reflects the private sector’s obligation and its support to the society and its individuals. The Home was opened on 13/12/1997 and it includes two main sections:
1. Day Care Section.
2. Intermittent housing care section.
Home Objectives:
1.To rehabilitate Disabled children and equip them with the necessary skills of self – reliance in their living affairs.
2.To provide care aspects and rehabilitative, medical, psychological and social services for Disabled children
3.To integrate the Disabled children into the society in order to become useful members in it
Acceptance Conditions:
1.He should be of a Bahraini nationality
2.The child should be among the category of sever or medium mental disability, or brain analysis.
3.The child’s age should exceed 12 years.
4.He should be free from contagious diseases or psychological disorders.
5.The medical examinations and the social and psychological research should prove his readiness for rehabilitation

The Types of Care:
The Home provides four types of care:
Housing Care (Permanent):
The residents who stay at Home continuously and an opportunity is provided for their families to visit them or arranging visits for the children to their parents.
Day Care:
Continues for a certain period during the day after which the child returns to the house where provision of all rehabilitative, recreational and psychological services are made.
Temporary care:
The child stays at the Home for a period that does not exceed three months due to emergency circumstances that are encountered by the family after which the child returns to his family as soon as the specific period is expired.
Physiotherapy cases:
The children undergo physiotherapy sessions through qualified specialists.
Types of Services:
Rehabilitative Services:
A rehabilitative programme for children is applied and it includes:
1.Precise coordination
2.Comprehensive coordination
3.Self – sufficiency.
4.Social Development.
5.Lingual development
Recreational Programmes:
Organizing picnics to public gardens and parks with the aim of recreation and making the children feel happy.
Celebrating the children birthday.
Physiotherapy Services:
1.Providing physiotherapy in order to give the children the opportunity to get trained on movements which help them in bodily balance.
2.Briefing the families on the ways to work with their children in the field of physiotherapy
Psychological Therapy Services:
1.Examining the capabilities and determining the mental level of the child as a procedure that precedes his admission to the Home.
2.Resolving the behavioral problems that encounter the children and suggesting suitable solutions
Medical care:
1.Providing aspects of medical care for different categories at the Home and treating them from bed sores and epilepsy.
2.Feeding the children who suffer from difficulties in eating their meals.
3.Accompanying the cases that require to see a doctor at the medical centers or hospitals
Living Services:
Provision of clothes.
Provision of meals
Taking care of personal cleanliness.
Assessment and Preparation of the Periodical Report:
The assessment procedure for every child is made prior to his admission to the Home in order to determine his level and specify a suitable programme for him. Also preparation of a periodical report is made which indicates the level of the child’s performance in the Home.
The Housing Section:
This section is specialized in taking care of the cases which the social research proved the difficulty in providing care for them inside their families , and their need to get all kinds of social, psychological, living, recreational, rehabilitative, medical, and health services.
