The National Bank of Bahrain Elderly Home was established in
1985. The Home provides social welfare, medical, psychological, living and
recreational services for elderly people of both sexes who do not have
supporters, and also provides care, rehabilitation, and treatment for elderly
in their place of residence.
The Home Objectives:
To provide social welfare, medical, psychological, living,
and recreational aspects for the Home and Center’s residents, subject to the
requirements and needs of each resident.
To develop suitable rehabilitation programmes for elderly
and to benefit from their abilities and capabilities.
To integrate the elderly with the external environment and
to strengthen the tie between them and their families.
To provide care, rehabilitation and treatment for elderly
people in their place of residence, and to guide families to the methods of
taking care of them through the mobile units.
To train and qualify the cadres working in the Home or
Center, upgrade their efficiency, and develop their capabilities in the field
of elderly care.
Types of care:
1. Permanent Care:
This care is provided for elderly category that does not
have a supporter or whose families circumstances do not allow to take care of
them, and they stay at the Home or Center on a permanent basis till the end of
their lives. It is conditional when providing this type of care to obtain the
elderly’s agreement, as well as the agreement of their families.
2. Intermittent Care:
This is considered as a joint alternate care for the elderly
between the Home or Center, and the family in order to alleviate the
family’s burden through taking care of the elderly at the Home or Center
for a limited period, after which he returns to the care of his family.
3. Temporary Care:
Through which different services are provided for the
elderly for a limited period that extends for one month or more due to
emergency circumstances in the family, following which the elderly returns to
his family as soon as the specific period is expired.
Acceptance Conditions:
1. He should be of a
Bahraini nationality .
2. The elderly’s age should
not be less than sixty years.
3. He should not be able to
work or unable to secure his needs by himself.
4. He should be free from
contagious diseases and mental disorders.
5. He should not have a
supporter who is legitimately responsible for him.
6. He should have the desire
to benefit form the services of the Home or Center.

The Board of MuharraqSocialWelfareCenter
Within the directions framework of the Ministry of Social Development towards increasing the existing cooperation between the Governmental and private sectors, crystallizing the private sectors efforts and affirming its role in the support and development of welfare services in Bahrain, H.E. the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs has issued a Ministerial Order in 1995 to form a Board for Muharraq Social Welfare Center in order to participate in the following matters:
1.to prepare, develop and implement the general policy of the Center
2.To supervise and follow the implementation of the Center’s policy
3.To find out sources to finance the Center through gratuities, donations and grants that are given by companies, establishments, individuals, and others
4.To prepare plans and programmes to ensure the achievement of the Center’s objectives
5.To put special regulations for the Center, and to supervise its administrative, financial and all other activities in accordance with the Center’s by-law
6.To prepare annual reports about the Center’s activity and its requirement, and take the appropriate decisions pertaining to the Center future
Acceptance Conditions:
