Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) Rehabilitation Center

It was inaugurated on the fourteenth of January 1992, and the Center was built and furnished at the expense of Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK). It undertakes the task of preparing people with moderate and severe intellectual disability and motor disability in the Labour market by virtue of allowing them to be trained and empowered to integrate into society and gain self-confidence that would turn them into productive people to achieve the objectives of the Economic Vision 2030.


Objectives:
  1. Diagnose the disabled with physical and sensory abilities to examine their readiness and physical and sensory capabilities to develop a program of care and educational and vocational guidance for the development of those capabilities.
  2. To provide applicants with the opportunity to read newspapers, magazines, and educational television programs, and to play educational and entertaining games;
  3. To organize festivals and entertainment parties on the occasions celebrated by the Kingdom of Bahrain;
  4. To hold exhibitions to introduce the applicants' products;
  5. To develop and encourage the group of tendencies and skills of persons with disabilities, which would help them enrich their lives and occupy their spare time by means of recreational, entertaining and social programs and activities;
  6. To hold exhibitions and seminars highlighting their activities and vocational participation;
  7. To qualify and train the cadres working at the Center, to raise their efficiency and to develop their capabilities in the field of caring and rehabilitation of youth with intellectual disabilities;

Programs & Services:
First: Vocational Qualification Program:

The Center offers many services and rehabilitation programs that contribute to the development of applicants' abilities and potentials and further qualify them by means of having them well trained in the following vocational workshops:

  • Carpentry workshop
  • Agriculture workshop
  • Handicraft workshop
  • Hotel and housekeeping workshop

Second: Program and curative health care:

 

  1. Follow-up statements and periodic medical students and open a special file for each of them.
  2. Concern for health affairs  and the follow-up medical needs them.
  3. Work on the immunization of students and working with them.
  4. Providing prosthetic devices for students who need it.
  5. A first-aid center or transfer students to the hospital when necessary.
  6. Periodically check on the students.

Third: Mental health care Programs:

 

  • Psychological testing of students to determine their abilities and potential.
  • Provide remedial education according to the characteristics of each individual case "behavior modification".
  • Provide remedial education group.

Fourth: Social welfare program:

 

  1. Case study students' social and record all the changes made to the conditions
  2. Provide financial and in-kind assistance to needy cases.
  3. Organizing field visits to public and private institutions.
  4. Work on the continuation of the students' relationship with their families and the outside community through mutual visits and joint Programs.
  5. Provide transportation to transport students from home to the center and vice versa.

Fifth: Cultural and entertainment Programs and sports:

 

  1. Organize educational and recreational trips for students.
  2. Provide an opportunity for students to participate in the center and scout teams participating in scout camps organized by various institutions.
  3. Provide an opportunity for students to view the newspapers, magazines and television. educational Programs and engage in educational games and entertainment games.
  4. Organizing entertainments in the observances of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
  5. Organization of exhibitions to introduce students products.
  6. Provide an opportunity for students to participate in all social activities, internal and external.
  7. To participate in all sports activities for the disabled at the local level and international level.
  8. Organization of Physical Education quotas within the program and participate in the daily local and international tournaments.

Sixth: Training Programs for workers place:
  1. Organizing training courses in various fields of special education and vocational rehabilitation at the local level and regional level.
  2. Organizing lectures and refresher courses during the academic year.
  3. Participate in training courses organized by local universities and centers with similar disabilities.
  4. Exploratory exchange of visits between the centers with disabilities to benefit from their expertise.
  5. Scholarship to obtain certificates of staff specialized in the fields of special education and vocational rehabilitation.
  6. Participate in local and international conferences.

Categories Admitted at the Center:

The category of intellectual disability

Age group:

16 years and over.


Admission Requirements:
  1. Bahraini Nationality
  2. Free from the infectious and communicable diseases
  3. He/She must have a moderate or severe intellectual disability, or a sensory or motor disability;
  4. His/Her age must be 16 years and over.
  5. Take advantage of the center's Programs and services.
  6. To have the ability to personal self-care.
Required Documents:
  • An updated medical report issued by a government hospital with the approval of the consultant physician (does not exceed two years).
  • Clearance Certificate from infectious and communicable diseases.
Admission Procedure:
  1. Submit an official application through the social centers to join the educational service attached to a copy of the CPR of the situation and the medical reports.
  2. Conduct social research on the situation and disabled family.
  3. Make the necessary different assessments of the situation (psychological - academic - professional - medical).
  4. Open File of situation.
  5. Guardian's approval the approval of the service system and Cooperation Center in person to follow the situation whenever the need arises
  6. Subjecting the case for a trial period for a period not exceeding six months to determine the feasibility of the continuity of the center situation and the suitability of the applied Programs.
  7. Comprehensive medical examination.

Ending the relationship:
  1. Death.
  2. When asked Guardian end state services from the center.
  3. The student did not respond to the applicable Programs place after the end of the trial period prescribed.
  4. Upon completion of the student specific rehabilitative Programs to him.
  5. When conditions at the center are not appropriate for the needs of the student-sufficiency and development.
  6. The absence of a student for a period of seven consecutive days or for two weeks as intermittent without compelling reasons.
  7. When the condition becomes a danger to him and the other students despite efforts to modify behavior.
  8. When the absence of one or more in terms of acceptance.
  9. Non-compliance with the regulations, procedures and instructions in the center pick.

Procedures for the arrest of the situation:
  • Codification of detailed information about the situation in the forms of behavior modification.
  • Preparation of reports on the situation by a team working at the center.
  • Discuss the situation with the psychiatrist.
  • Call parents to discuss the problem of the situation.
  • Send notices to the Guardian to urge the state to attend in case of his absence.
  • Raising proposals by the Working Group Center for Social Rehabilitation Administration
  • And work to implement the decisions of the administration.
