National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) Home for the Rehabilitation of Disabled Children

The home was established in 1970 and was the first governmental institution concerned with persons with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities and persons with disabilities with cerebral palsy. As a contribution from the National Bank of Bahrain and an affirmation of its national role in supporting social services, it has built a new building for the home. This generous and noble initiative comes as an expression of the private sector's commitment and support for development through community partnership. It includes two sections:

  • Department of Residential Care (3 years and over).
  • Department of Physiotherapy (1-18 years).


The objectives of the Home:
  1. Rehabilitation of children with disabilities and providing them with the necessary skills for self-reliance in their life affairs.
  2. Providing physiotherapy service to those who need it from the members of the home and the external cases registered with the Ministry of Social Development.
  3. Integration of children with disabilities into society to become useful members of in it.
  4. Providing aspects of rehabilitation, health, psychological and social care and services for children with disabilities.

Types of Disabilities:
  • Cerebral Palsy.
  • Multiple disabilities.
  • Mental disabilities.
  • Down's syndrome.

Types of available services:
First: Permanent and Temporary shelter services in the housing care section:
  • Providing social care, including nourishment, lodging and psychological care
  • Providing health care treatment a
  • Providing educational care
  • Provide meaningful recreational activities

Second: Physiotherapy services

Types of cases that are trained in the physiotherapy department:

  1. Cases of cerebral palsy and paraplegia.
  2. Cases of mental retardation for those who suffer from physical and motor problems.
  3. Cases of joint dislocation.
  4. Cases of hydrocephalus and cerebral palsy. 5. Developmental delays.

Admission Requirements:
  1. Applicant must be a Bahraini national or born to a Bahraini mother having a permanent resident status.
  2. Applicant should be a disabled.
  3. Applicant should not suffer from behavioral or psychological disorders.
  4. The medical report from the Psychiatric Hospital proves that he suffers from intellectual disability, is free from behavioral disorders, and is physically stable.

Documents required for submission:
  1. An updated medical report issued by a government hospital with the approval of the consultant physician (does not exceed two years).
  2. Clearance Certificate from infectious and communicable diseases.

Registration steps:
  1. Submit an official application through the social centers to join the educational service.
  2. Attach the medical examination report with all previous medical tests and the vaccination certificate.

Case Assessment Steps:
  1. Set an appointment to conduct the social research.
  2. Prepare a report on the visit.
  3. Acknowledging the validity of the case for the home, or the possibility of accepting it or not.
